Calling All Decorators!


Sunset Hill House is excited to announce our first ever Decorator’s Showdown, to be held at the inn the weekend of April 8th.  Make your mark on the inn when you Create the Perfect Guest Room.    

 The inn is NH’s premier mountain resort, built in the late 1800s.  Family owned and operated by the world’s happiest innkeepers, its 30 guest rooms offer amenities ranging from claw footed tubs to whirlpool tubs, and from cozy twin rooms to canopied king suites.   Innkeeper’s Nancy and Lon want your help creating the perfect guest room.  To this end they are calling all decorators to  assist.

 We Provide: A room and bathroom.  An inn filled with items you can scavenge.  A small budget to spend on supplies for the room ($200).    Some basic supplies (paint and paintbrushes, basic tools, etc). One weekend.   Lodging and dining for you and your partner throughout the weekend. Loads of publicity for you and your business before, during and after.

You provide:  The vision.  The implementation.  The panic.  The sweat.  And whatever else you want or need, to create the perfect guest room.  If you wish to provide material or supplies, they must have a value not to exceed $200)

 Prerequisites:   Participants must be design or decorating professionals.  You may (and should) bring publicity information with you to place near your workspace.  One assistant or partner is permitted to lend a hand. 

  “I love to decorate – but just cant seem to find the time to do what I know should be done” says world’s happiest innkeeper Nancy Henderson.  “Since guests give me advice all the time, it was not a big step for me to say ‘ have at it’ and allow the them to dig in and have fun.”  We have had several decorators express an interest in this, but I’m really hoping to get local business involved as well as a way of promoting their skills.

Event will begin April 8th (Friday) at 3pm and terminate Sunday at noon.  The public will be welcome to view the project throughout the weekend, voting for their favorite.  The weekend will culminate in a decorators and public open house, hosted by the inn, on Sunday April 10th, and awards banquet that evening.  Judging will be a panel designated by the innkeepers.   

Winner of innkeeper’s choice and viewer’s choice rooms will receive three night a luxury getaway for two (value over $1400), or choice of other available prizes.  Consolation prizes will be given to all participants, so no one leaves empty handed.

Want to play?  Send us the following:

  1. Your name, address, email and phone
  2. Your business name, address, website, and any social media site
  3. A photograph of you and a copy of your business logo if applicable.
  4. A one paragraph description of who you are, what you do, and why you want to play.
  5. Selected applicants will be required to provide a copy of their business insurance with Sunset Hill House as a named insured.  This can be faxed to 603  823 5523

All applications, information, room ideas supplies and materials   provided by applicant as well as images, photographs, and similar,  and anything else I’ve forgotten become property of the inn.   Participant permits Sunset Hill House to publish photos, use their name and business information, and describe their work on line, in media, and in other realms (and any other way  I’ve forgotten).  Probably an attorney will get a hold of this and want to rewrite it into something taking up 20 pages and costing a small fortune.  Not happening.  We’ll be nice.  You be nice.  Simple. 

All applications must be received by March 1st, 2011.  Email to innkeeper@sunsethillhouse.com   Applicants will be notified by March 7th if they have or have not been chosen to participate.  A list of rooms eligible for the makeover will be available by March 7th.  Room assignments will be “drawn from a hat” at the commencement of the weekend.  Participants are encouraged to come “case the joint” ahead of time.
