Sunset Hill House Grows Wine Program, Hires Somellier
It is the year of wines at Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill. For the past 6 years, Sunset Hill House has been an annual recipient of an annual Wine Spectator Award for its outstanding wine list, and 2010 is no different. The Wine Spectator award announcement was just the beginning of what will be a bold and proactive year of education, tastings, and personal wine guidance under the command of Sommelier Rufus Boyett.
“We had the opportunity to have Rufus Boyett join our staff this fall, and couldn’t jump on it fast enough!” said innkeeper Nancy Henderson – “he’s a real treasure!”. Mr Boyett is recognized in the industry as one of New England’s experts in “old world” wines – especially those of Italy, France, and Germany, and has warm personal friendships with many vintners and growers. He has hosted wine dinners at the inn in years past, and his “retirement job” was as a licensed wine broker in NH. Effective October 12, 2010, Mr Boyett will be available to guests and diners most afternoons for a casual “wine chat and tasting” in the NH Tavern, then in the restaurant in the evenings as sommelier to help guests choose the perfect wine to pair with Chef Well’s exquisite meals.
An exciting program of wine events is earmarked for the 2010-2011 season, including wine dinners as well as wine tasting educational seminars. Mr Boyett can also lead private wine tastings and events. The first wine dinner, Treasures of Tuscany, is scheduled at the inn for November 13th. It will feature a 4 course dinner of traditional Tuscan fare created by Chef Wells, and paired with classic wines from the region.
